Beavers Curb Hornets, 9-6
|
Portland withstood an impressive performance by Eureka center fielder Dennis Mayne to defeat the Hornets, 9-6, at The Nest. Mayne was 1-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Portland is 75-78 and Eureka, with the loss, 87-67.
Vihaan Vedant had a big run-scoring double for the Beavers in the top of the fifth inning. With Portland leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Mitsunari Kobayashi and stroked the double to right-center. It was his 29th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Beavers ahead, 3-0.
"We got the victory," said Vedant. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
