Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Manhattan Beach Patriots got the win.

Manhattan Beach beat Chicago on the strength of starter Luciano Carreiras's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. Carreiras, now 7-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run.

The Patriots got an important contribution from left fielder Henry Wrottesley, who in the top of the seventh punched a 1-2 fastball into right for a run-scoring single. It was his 141st hit of the season and put the Patriots ahead, 3-1.

"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Steve Hansen.

Chicago now has a 5-game losing streak.
