The Montreal Royales defeated the London Monarchs, 7-5, at Eliminators Ballpark. Montreal first baseman Pete Roberts was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Montreal reliever Bernard Coste picked up the win to move to 3-0. Jim Unknown suffered the loss. The second-place Royales raised their record to 14-9.
Had Roberts not come through in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Roberts hit a run-scoring double. The Royales never looked back after taking the 6-5 lead.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Roberts told the Montreal News.
