Trois-Rivieres starter Bill Hoffmann pitched effectively against the Victoria Capitals at Blue Wings Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Hoffmann, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 2 walks. Jim Unknown was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Luke Cowley was a key contributor to the win for the Saints. In the bottom of the sixth with two out, the light-hitting left fielder stroked a single to right. He was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Victoria manager Tom Morton.
The Saints, now 2-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
