Late Rally by Golden Bears Secures Win
|
The USC Trojans wasted an impressive 6-inning effort from starter Bill McGhee, falling 2-1 to the California Golden Bears at Nesquehoning College Fields. California reliever Dave Wood picked up the win to move to 6-2. William Frank suffered the loss. Jim Unknown got credit for the save for California. It was his 1st of the year.
Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Júlio Deleón's at-bat in the top of the eighth was crucial. With one out, the California center fielder hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"Credit where credit is due," said Deleón, "this was a team win."
With the win, the Golden Bears improved to 16-29.
