Big Day by Matherly Sparks Bruins Win
|
The UCLA Bruins topped the South Mississippi Golden Eagles, 6-4, in Rod Dedeaux League action at Ballpark of Shiprock College. The player of the game was UCLA third baseman Irving Matherly. UCLA reliever Andreas Roberts was credited with the win, to go to 5-1. Carl Veeck took the loss for South Mississippi. James Franklin closed it out for his 14th save.
Flexing his muscles for UCLA was the aforementioned Matherly. The third baseman had a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third for the Bruins. It put his team ahead, 3-1, and sent them on to victory.
"This was a good win for us," said Matherly. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
The South Mississippi losing streak has now reached 4 games.
