Deleón Shines in Golden Bears Win
|
In a tight contest at Prisoners Ballpark, the California Golden Bears edged the LSU Tigers by the score of 7-6. California first baseman Júlio Deleón, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Jim Unknown, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Doug Gardner finished the game for California and earned his 4th save.
The Golden Bears got a clutch hit from José Hinojosa with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hinojosa jumped on a 1-0 fastball from Anthony Smith and hit a single, staking his club to a 6-5 lead.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Deleón.
The 15th-place Tigers have lost 4 straight games.
