Golden Bears Raise Rally Flag, Beat Oregon State, 5-3
|
The Oregon State Beavers got a sterling performance from third baseman Myron Stone, but the Golden Bears still prevailed, 5-3. Stone was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. California reliever Jon Webber picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. John Nye was saddled with the loss. Doug Gardner was credited with the save for California, his 3rd of the season.
California took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Ezana Khalil hit a clutch 2-run home run to bring Golden Bears fans to their feet.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Khalil told the California News.
The Golden Bears are now 11-27, while the Beavers fall to 19-19.
