The Long Beach State 49'ers topped the California Golden Bears, 8-4, with youngster Will Southern playing a key role. Southern was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the 49'ers in the win. Long Beach State goes to 18-16, California to 10-25.

A defensive miscue in the bottom of the second cost the Golden Bears. With Long Beach State leading 1-0, Howard Baker reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. Long Beach State ended up winning the ballgame.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Southern.
