Big Day by Owen Sparks Owls Win
|
The Rice Owls grabbed a 9-2 win over the Ole Miss Rebels at Ballpark of Wrightsville College. Rice catcher Kent Owen was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice to earn player of the game honors. Juanito Erlam earned the win for Rice. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 10. With the win, he raised his record to 4-3. With the win over Ole Miss, the Owls improved to 12-22.
Jeffrey Ellis contributed to the Rice win. The 19-year old right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the second. For the game, Ellis went 2-5 with 2 singles.
"It feels good to get that win," said Ellis. "Now it's on to the next one."
