Cougars Hang 7-3 Loss on Cardinals
|
The Houston Cougars beat the Stanford Cardinals, 7-3, at Surfers Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman John Miller, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Houston reliever Steve Bush picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Morris MacKinley was saddled with the loss. Ronald Allen finished to wrap up his 1st save.
Houston center fielder Dave Cummings helped the Cougars go up, 4-1, in the top of the fifth inning. With the game tied, Cummings hit a bases-clearing double off Stanford pitcher Morris MacKinley.
Cummings called the win "a collective effort."
Houston now sits in 17th place in the Cliff Gustafson at 13-18.
