Longhorns Fall Short, 4-3, at Rice
|
Texas got a terrific game from left fielder Pete Bauer. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Rice, 4-3. Bauer was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Rice reliever Mark Hughes was the winner. His record is now 2-1. Mike Holt took the loss. Justin Taylor nailed down his 8th save.
Also having an impact was left fielder Jim Unknown, who stroked a run-scoring double in the bottom of the third for Rice. For the game, Unknown was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
"Wish we'd had more wins to celebrate like this one," said Unknown.
The 22nd-place Owls are now 11-20, the Longhorns 18-13.
