Trojans Squelch Baylor Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Trojans had to overcome a good performance from Baylor pitcher Jeff Mayes to claim a 3-0 win at Nesquehoning College Fields. Mayes went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. William Frank picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Jeff Mayes was tagged with the loss. Jim Unknown closed the game out for USC, earning his 1st save.
Tied up with the Bears in the bottom of the fourth, the Trojans got a boost from catcher Brent Grinlee. With the bases loaded, Grinlee saw a 1-0 cutter from Jeff Mayes and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put USC on top, 1-0.
"Feels good to get the job done," Grinlee said after the game.
The 10th-place Bears have lost 4 consecutive games.
