Golden Eagles Saddle Beavers with 11-6 Loss
|
The South Mississippi Golden Eagles topped the Oregon State Beavers, 11-6, in Rod Dedeaux League action at Palisades Ballpark. The player of the game was South Mississippi left fielder Jim Unknown. Tony Cox was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. The Golden Eagles now own a record of 14-7.
There were several reasons the Golden Eagles beat the Beavers, but one factor was Oliver Craig. In the top of the third, the South Mississippi second baseman came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 3-2 lead.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Unknown told the South Mississippi Daily. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
