Miller, Cougars Too Much for 49'ers
|
The Long Beach State 49'ers were defeated, 9-7, by the Houston Cougars. Leading the charge for Houston was second baseman John Miller. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Houston reliever Dean Reilly was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Sean Bryant took the loss for Long Beach State. Karl Lewis earned the save for Houston, his 5th.
Miller delivered in the bottom of the second for Houston. With the game tied and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the second baseman hit a 2-run double to right-center.
"We got the victory," said Miller. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
Houston occupies 7th place in the Cliff Gustafson at 8-5.
