Extra-Inning Win by Bruins over Owls
|
The UCLA Bruins did just enough to secure a 6-5 victory over the Rice Owls at Ballpark of Shiprock College. Nobody did more than first baseman Willis Pierce, who captured player of the game honors. UCLA reliever James Franklin picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jim Unknown was saddled with the loss. UCLA bumps their record to 8-3 with the win.
The game came to an abrupt end with no one out in the bottom of the tenth. On a pitch from Jim Unknown, Steve Parker hit a walk-off run-scoring triple. It gave UCLA the 6-5 walk-off win.
"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said UCLA field general Carl Smith.
