The Fresno State Bulldogs beat the Houston Cougars, 9-6, at Brooks College Grounds. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Justin Deem, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Dan Thompson, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held the Cougars to 2 runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Randall Keys earned the save, his 2nd, for the Bulldogs.

Deem went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 against the Cougars. In the bottom of the first inning, he hit a 2-run home run that scored 2 and put Fresno State in front, 2-0.

"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Fresno State Bulldogs manager Bobby Miller. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."

Fresno State, at 4-7, sits in 17th place in the Cliff Gustafson.
