Ragin Cajuns Edge Past South Mississippi, 6-5
|
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Jim Unknown, the South Mississippi Golden Eagles suffered a 6-5 loss to the Louisiana-Layfayette Ragin Cajuns. Unknown was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. Louisiana-Layfayette reliever Kelly Young was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Chris Bentley took the loss. Tracy Spencer nailed down his 2nd save.
The Ragin Cajuns got an important contribution from center fielder Daniel Vázquez, who in the bottom of the eighth punched a 1-0 fastball into left for a run-scoring single. It was his 14th hit of the season and put the Ragin Cajuns ahead, 6-5.
Vázquez said afterward that he was glad to contribute to the win.
Louisiana-Layfayette is now 6-5, South Mississippi 8-3.
