Golden Bears Get 9-4 Win Versus Rice
A 4-RBI performance from center fielder Kelly Johnson led the California Golden Bears to a 9-4 win over the Rice Owls. Doug Gardner earned the save for California, his 1st. The loss drops Rice to 0-2.

With California leading 5-2 in the top of the eighth, Johnson hit a slider from Jimmy Permenter for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Golden Bears ahead, 8-2.

"Baseball is about momentum," said Johnson, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
