Tight Tilt Goes to Cougars, 3-2
|
The California Golden Bears inaugurated their 2028 season with a tough 3-2 loss to the Houston Cougars at Prisoners Ballpark. Starting Pitcher Mark Edwards was named player of the game for Houston. Edwards picked up the win for Houston, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0.
The Cougars beat the Golden Bears in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out triple John Miller produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against California pitcher Kevin Murphy, Miller gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run triple.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Edwards said.
