Wilson Veeck was instrumental in his team's 4-2 triumph over the Iowa State Cyclones. The catcher went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk for the Auburn Tigers. Auburn reliever Ryan Daugherty picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Roberto Márquez took the loss. Auburn, at 28-18, sits in third place in the Ron Fraser Division.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fifth inning when the Tigers sent teenager Gunner White to the plate against Cyclones hurler Roberto Márquez. With a runner on 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 1-0 cutter to score 1.
White said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
