Volunteers Stick Tigers with 8-4 Loss
|
The Tennessee Volunteers had to overcome a big game from Auburn catcher Wilbert Hopkins to leave Zodiac Ballpark with a 8-4 victory. Hopkins was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Bartolo Mora was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. The 20th-place Volunteers improved to 18-24.
Willie Butler came through for the Volunteers in the top of the fourth inning. With Tennessee leading 2-0, the center fielder had a run-scoring walk.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Butler told the Tennessee Gazette.
