Thompson Helps Gamecocks Beat Sycamores
|
Len Thompson was the difference-maker for the South Carolina Gamecocks in what turned into a shootout with the Indiana State Sycamores. Thompson earned the player of the game award after going 1-for-1 in the 12-9 Gamecocks win. Eric Barber got credit for the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1 innings. Steve Burton was credited with the save for South Carolina, his 8th of the season.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Gamecocks grabbed the lead on a two-out single by Billy Gibson. South Carolina at the time was trailing 2-1, but Gibson's 2-run single off Cipriano Rodríguez put his team in front.
"Crazy game," said Gibson after it ended.
The 15th-place Gamecocks improved to 18-21.
