Vanderbilt right fielder Jim Fields was sensational. He was 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Ohio State beat the Commodores, 8-5. Fields was named the player of the game despite the loss. The Buckeyes sit in 17th place in the Ron Fraser Division with a record of 17-21.

Ohio State took a 8-5 lead on Marcus Evans's 5th home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Vanderbilt pitcher Athan Ladas in the bottom of the tenth.

Evans said afterward that he was "glad the fans were treated to a good ballgame."
