Commodores Stymie Virginia, Take 7-1 Win
|
The Vanderbilt Commodores downed the Virginia Cavaliers, 7-1, at Ballpark of Barrow College. The Commodores were led by John Meyer, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Mike Fuller, the winner, improved to 5-2. He held Virginia to 1 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Vanderbilt is now 16-18.
With Vanderbilt trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Meyer hit a curveball from Clement Charles for a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Commodores ahead, 2-1.
In postgame comments to the Vanderbilt Today, Meyer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
