Stevens Lifts Jayhawks to 7-4 Win
|
The Kansas Jayhawks grabbed a 7-4 win over the Miami Hurricanes at Gremlins Ballpark. Kansas center fielder Donald Stevens went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 to earn player of the game honors. The Jayhawks saw their win-loss record go to 11-22. At the same time, the Hurricanes fell to 21-12.
Steve Hanson, not known for his power, had a big at-bat with no one out in the top of the sixth. That's when he connected on a fastball from Mike Whaley for a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season put Kansas in front, 4-1.
"Wish we'd had more wins to celebrate like this one," said Stevens.
