Cyclones Spoil Great Performance by Butler
The Iowa State Cyclones had to overcome a big game from Tennessee catcher Jeff Butler to leave Forney College Grounds with a 14-8 victory. Butler went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner was Matt Horton in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Tim Baldwin took the loss. Huey Moore earned the save for Iowa State, his 1st.

The Cyclones beat the Volunteers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Félix Sousa produced in the bottom of the sixth. Batting against Tennessee pitcher Tim Baldwin, Sousa gave his team a 8-7 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

"Guys always talk about winning games because of the 'little things,'" Sousa told the Iowa State Observer. "Call me old fashioned, but I think baseball is about the big things -- like scoring more runs."

Iowa State currently is in 16th place in the Ron Fraser Division at 14-17.
