South Carolina turned a good effort from starter Gonzalo Jiménez into a win over the Virginia Cavaliers at Scandals Ballpark. The final score was 3-2. The Gamecocks go to 12-15, putting them 17th in the Ron Fraser Division.

South Carolina took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Jim Rynd hit a clutch solo home run to bring Gamecocks fans to their feet.

"Gonzalo was pounding the zone," said South Carolina manager Orlando Torres.
