Great Day for Smith in Sooners Win
|
Oscar Smith was instrumental in his team's 5-2 triumph over the Miami Hurricanes. The second baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma reliever Jim McCormick picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jack Walker absorbed the loss. Tim Perkins got credit for the save for Oklahoma. It was his 5th of the year.
The outcome might have been different had it not been for Smith. In the top of the ninth inning, when the Sooners were trailing 2-1, Smith delivered a two-out grand slam home run for Oklahoma, giving his team the lead.
"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Smith. "But I have better dreams after a win."
Oklahoma now sits at 15-13, while Miami falls to 18-10.
