Iowa State and Florida State put this game in the books despite some rain.
Iowa State Cyclones starter Lawrence Vargas was in fine form against the Florida State Seminoles at Ballpark of Riverdale College, leading his team to a 4-2 win. Vargas went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-1. Seosamh Fair was credited with the save for Iowa State, his 1st of the season.
Iowa State third baseman Steve Stewart helped the Cyclones to the win. In the top of the third inning, the 19-year old third baseman stroked a 2-run home run. For the game, Stewart went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"It's a mindset," said Vargas. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
The 18th-place Cyclones now have a win-loss record of 12-16.
