Tar Heels Down Buckeyes, 8-5
|
Craig Wilson was instrumental in his team's 8-5 triumph over the Ohio State Buckeyes. The second baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Kevin Cannon got credit for the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. The 4th-place Tar Heels improved to 16-10.
North Carolina center fielder Jason Hester changed the complexion of the game in the bottom of the sixth. That's when he belted a 3-run home run off Chris Lannigan. His 1st home run of the season put North Carolina in front, 7-5.
Wilson said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
