In a low-scoring game between the Virginia Cavaliers and the North Carolina Tar Heels, pitcher Howard Downey was masterful on the mound. The Virginia right-hander was named the player of the game in Virginia's 2-1 win. Andy Logan earned the save for Virginia, his 5th. The Cavaliers now have a record of 12-11.

Bill Davidson drove in one run for Virginia. In a tie game with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Davidson came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Cavaliers in front, 1-0.

"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Davidson.
