Cavaliers Win in Glorious Fashion
|
Despite a great performance by Iowa State catcher Virgil Ayliffe, the Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Cyclones by the score of 8-7 at Ballpark of Redwood College. Ayliffe was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. At 11-10, the Cavaliers find themselves in 12th place in the Ron Fraser Division.
The Cavaliers were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when third baseman Jeffrey O'Connor turned a 1-1 changeup from Armando Rodríguez into a grand slam home run. The walk-off home run sent a roar through the crowd and gave Virginia a thrilling 8-7 win.
"This is a great group to be a part of, and it's a big win for us," O'Connor told the Virginia Observer.
