Gamecocks Continue Skid Thanks to Stevens, Sooners
|
A 3-RBI performance from catcher Howard Stevens, who is tied for 7th in the SBL with a 1.221 OPS, led the Oklahoma Sooners to a 6-2 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. Oklahoma reliever Brendan Thomas picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-0. Will Bowman was collared with the loss. Tim Perkins was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
The Sooners got a lift from right fielder Kyle White who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh inning off Will Bowman. It was his 12th walk of the season and put Oklahoma in front, 3-2.
In comments to the Oklahoma News, White admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
South Carolina, at 8-11, has lost 4 straight.
