Multi-HR Day for Fields as Commodores Overpower Bulldogs, 9-5
|
The Vanderbilt Commodores topped the Georgia Bulldogs by the score of 9-5, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Jim Fields. Fields went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Commodores. With the win, the Commodores improved to 11-8.
The Commodores beat the Bulldogs in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Kevin Byrd produced in the bottom of the second. Batting against Georgia pitcher Ernesto Lara, Byrd gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Byrd.
