Cyclones Saddle Jayhawks with 3-1 Loss
|
In a tight game between the Iowa State Cyclones and the Kansas Jayhawks, pitcher Lawrence Vargas was terrific on the mound. The Iowa State right-hander was named the player of the game in Iowa State's 3-1 win. Vargas went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 1 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-1. The 19th-place Cyclones are now 7-11, the Jayhawks 4-14.
In the bottom of the third inning, catcher Virgil Ayliffe came through big-time for the Cyclones. With Iowa State leading 1-0, he belted a solo home run.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Iowa State manager James Taylor.
