Buckeyes Sneak Past Hurricanes, 3-2
|
The Ohio State Buckeyes did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Miami Hurricanes at Ballpark of Bloomfield College. Nobody did more than pitcher Dave Johnston, who captured player of the game honors. Ohio State reliever Jim Unknown picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Jack Walker was collared with the loss. The Buckeyes now own a record of 8-8.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Ohio State trailing 2-0, Joe Porter hit a fastball from Jack Walker to left-center for a 3-run home run. Just like that, the Buckeyes had a walk-off win.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Ohio State skipper Doug Dickey. "I can't complain."
