Florida State Topples South Carolina, 4-1
|
Pat Kirk never let the Gamecocks get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Seminoles to a 4-1 win. Kirk, now 1-1, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Jim Unknown picked up the save, his 1st.
One significant plate appearance for Florida State came with two out in the top of the sixth inning. Seminoles shortstop Tom Black hit a 2-run double, which helped Florida State go on to win.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Kirk.
Florida State now has a 3-game win streak.
