Volunteers Drop Another One
|
Getting a good performance from right fielder Jon Gray, the South Illinois Salukis defeated the Tennessee Volunteers, 5-2. Gray went 4-6 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Salukis. Jim Unknown closed the game out for South Illinois, earning his 1st save. The Volunteers, at 4-8, have lost 5 straight games.
There was more than one reason the Salukis beat the Volunteers, but Gray's big at-bat in the top of the fifth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"I just love going out and having a big game," Gray said when asked about being named player of the game. "It's an honor to have your talents recognized."
