Cavaliers Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
Virginia got an elite performance from starting pitcher Kyle Slaughter in taking a 7-1 decision over the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Cavaliers raised their record to 8-4.

There were several reasons the Cavaliers beat the Commodores, but one factor was Dave Lange. In the bottom of the sixth, the Virginia center fielder came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 2-1 lead.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Virginia Cavaliers manager Larry Vaughn, "I like our chances."
