|
Oklahoma got a terrific performance from right fielder Tom MacIntosh, but it wasn't enough to beat the Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas won the Ramparts Ballpark contest, 6-4. MacIntosh was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Elmer Frazer was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. The 15th-place Razorbacks raised their record to 5-7.
Trailing 3-2, Arkansas's fortunes turned in the bottom of the fifth inning when the 21-year old left fielder Paco Martínez lifted a 1-1 forkball into the stands for a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put the Razorbacks up, 4-3.
In postgame comments to the Arkansas Chronicle, Martínez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
