Jean-Claude Petit left his imprint on the 8-7 Maple win against the Portland Beavers. Petit, who is a three-time All-Star, went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Maple reliever Adrien Clément got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Toyotomi Nakano was tagged with the loss. The win lifts Maple to a record of 3-3.

The critical at-bat for Maple came in the top of the tenth inning. With one out, Petit hit a sacrifice fly, putting Maple up, 8-7.

"It was a test of wills," said Arinori Nakamura, the Maple skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
