South Carolina center fielder Mark Hernández had 3 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Vanderbilt Commodores, 9-5. South Carolina reliever Miguel Angel Chávez got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Juan Núñez was tagged with the loss. Losses have been few and far between for the Commodores, who are now 7-3.

An important at-bat for South Carolina came with two out in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Hernández hit a bases-clearing double, which contributed to the Gamecocks win.

"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Hernández.
