Great Effort by O'Reilly Wasted in 4-3 Loss
|
Fans who came to Madera College Grounds watched the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Tennessee Volunteers fight to the finish.
The inspired effort of Tennessee third baseman Matt O'Reilly was not enough to prevent a 4-3 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels. O'Reilly was 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Earning his 3rd save for North Carolina was Nick Quinn.
Neither team could produce runs. So, Alex Allen's at-bat in the top of the eighth was critical. With one out, the North Carolina left fielder hit a run-scoring double, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
When asked about his performance after the game, Allen said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
The Tar Heels have an impressive 7-3 record.
