Tigers Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
Auburn starter Craig Powell pitched effectively against the Virginia Cavaliers at Zodiac Ballpark. The left-hander led his team to a 9-7 win. Powell, now 2-0, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 3, walking 4, and allowing 2 earned runs. Losses have been rare for the Cavaliers, who are now 7-2.
Wilson Veeck contributed to the Auburn win. The 21-year old catcher stroked a 2-run single in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, Veeck was 1-2 with 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"They played a better game than we did," said Virginia skipper Larry Vaughn.
