Big Day for Stevens as Sooners Down Volunteers, 11-4
|
The Oklahoma Sooners beat the Tennessee Volunteers, 11-4, at Biglerville College Fields. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Howard Stevens, who captured player of the game honors. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Brendan Thomas got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. With the win, Oklahoma boosts its record to 5-4.
Stevens had a big hit for Oklahoma with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. With Oklahoma trailing 4-0, Stevens hit a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Sooners up, 4-3.
"It makes it a little nicer in the clubhouse when we win," said Stevens. "It eases the tension."
