Buckeyes Deal Salukis 7-5 Setback
|
The South Illinois Salukis got a sterling performance from catcher Tim Cook, but the Buckeyes still prevailed, 7-5. Cook was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Dave Johnston was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Jim Phillips was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Victor Farley drew 2 walks for Ohio State. The 19-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Van Saucedo. It was his 2nd walk of the season.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Farley told a Ohio State Observer reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
With the win, Ohio State boosts its record to 2-3.
