Commodores Win at North Carolina, 3-1
|
Pitcher Juan Núñez was sensational for the Vanderbilt Commodores in his team's 3-1 triumph over the North Carolina Tar Heels. Núñez received player of the game honors, while picking up the win. In 5 innings, Núñez surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Peter Dunbar closed the door for Vanderbilt, picking up his 2nd save of the year.
The Commodores beat the Tar Heels in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Danny King produced in the top of the second. Batting against North Carolina pitcher Aaron Gore, King gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Vanderbilt manager Cisco Sánchez.
The Commodores, now 4-1, have been playing some good baseball.
