Ellis goes 3-for-3 to Power Cavaliers Offense
|
The Virginia Cavaliers knocked off the Kansas Jayhawks, 9-4, at Brutes Ballpark. Troy Ellis, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Virginia won. The right fielder was 3-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Virginia reliever Colton Morgan was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Micheal Todd. Virginia, now 4-0, is setting the league on fire so far.
The Cavaliers got a big at-bat from shortstop Howard Hayes. For the game, Hayes was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Virginia a 4-3 lead.
"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Hayes told the Virginia Observer.
