The Tennessee Volunteers got a strong performance from pitcher Will Young, who stymied the Michigan offense en route to a 4-2 win at Madera College Grounds. Tennessee reliever Brett Roughan was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Jim Fisher took the loss for Michigan. Carl Bailey recorded the save for Tennessee, his 1st of the season.

Tennessee took control in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Jeff Butler hit a 3-run home run to make it 4-1, Volunteers.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Young.

The win takes Tennessee to 2-1.
